ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION...FEB 19-MARCH 5 2005

M V EXPLORER AND SIDE TRIP TO PERITO MERINO GLACIER

From Ushaia on the M V Explorer(about 100 people aboard) .....unbelievably rough seas and all that.......but worth it despite a scary crossing. Then via Zodiacs to the South Shetland Islands and the mainland of Antarctica. Back to Ushaia and then on to Perito Merino Glacier, stayed in a little hotel nearby and hiked beside the glacier which is on the border of Argentina and Chile. It is magnificent and is supposedly the only glacier with movement visible to the naked eye. Went out in a small boat very...too? ....close to ice shearing off the face. WONDERFUL! Stopped in Buenos Aires, Ushaia and El Calafate on this trip.
